From 1 January 2020, issuers of securities listed on EU regulated markets must prepare and publish their consolidated financial statements in the so-called European Single Electronic Format (ESEF). This means that for the accounting period beginning on 1 January 2020, companies must change the way they publish their financial results.

Specifically, they are required to publish their annual reports in XHTML format. Furthermore, companies that prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS must tag it using XBRL taxonomy.
